Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) 2024 Update

The ASWEAS set the principles and criteria for accrediting social work education in Australia, ensuring graduates meet professional standards.

These accreditation standards are, in turn, informed by the principles, values and professional competencies outlined in the AASW Code of Ethics (2020) and the AASW Practice Standards (2023).

The AASW accredits Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees, making graduates eligible for AASW membership—a benchmark for professional practice in Australia. In Australia social work is a self-regulating profession, with the AASW nominated to maintain the standards and therefore ensuring high standards in education, practice and ethics.

The ASWEAS 2024 is now released with the Association finalising details on a transition and implementation process. For new Providers applying from 2025 we would ask that the ASWEAS 2024 be utilised, with all Providers implementing from 1 January 2026.
