AASW Supporting Social Workers to Connect with Digital Health
AASW is proud to support social workers in engaging with the AHPA Digital Health Connection Project, a national initiative led by Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) in collaboration with the Australian Digital Health Agency. This project aims to help allied health professionals build digital capability and connect with Australia’s key digital health systems.
Through the initiative, social workers can access practical guidance on key digital health services, including:
- My Health Record: Introduction to Australia’s national digital health record system
- Healthcare Identifiers: Understanding unique patient and provider identifiers
- Provider Connect Australia: Connecting digitally with other healthcare providers
- Cybersecurity Awareness: Tips to keep health information safe and secure.

This session is relevant for allied health professionals, private practice owners and practice managers seeking clarity on secure digital connection requirements.
Secure sharing of health information via digital products begins with an individual Healthcare Provider Identifier (HPI-I).
AHPA invites allied health professionals and practice owners to join Webinar 2 in the 2026 Digital Health Education Series, featuring formal presentations from representatives of Services Australia and Ahpra, followed by live Q&A.
This practical session will provide clear guidance on:
- What an HPI-I is and why it is required to use digital products like My Health Record, electronic prescribing and secure messaging
- How Allied Health Professionals obtain an HPI-I
- How HPI-I connects with an organisation’s HPI-O
- How organisations obtain and manage an HPI-O
- How HPI-I’s enable connection to national digital health products
- Where to access step-by-step guidance and support
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions before and during the webinar, relevant to their practice setting and registration status.
How AASW is Involved
AASW supports social workers in exploring and connecting with national digital health tools to help build confidence and engage with a more connected healthcare system. Through the Digital Health Connection Project, members will have access to:
