2025 Lyra Taylor Social Work Impact Summit – Sydney - 20 November 2025

The 2025 Lyra Taylor Social Work Impact Summit was a major national event delivered by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Held on Thursday 20 November 2025 at the InterContinental Sydney, the Summit brought together 136 delegates and established a new national platform for social work thought leadership and transformative practice.

Delivered in the lead-up to AASW’s 80th anniversary, the inaugural Summit was themed Beyond response: proactive social work in family violence. The program convened social workers, policymakers, advocates, researchers, and community voices to address the urgent and ongoing challenge of family and domestic violence in Australia, with a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, and justice-oriented practice.

The day was guided by Carolyn Cousins, Director of Tuned In Consulting, as Master of Ceremonies. Proceedings opened with a Welcome to Country by Binowee Bayles, followed by welcome and closing addresses from Liz Little, AASW National President.

A formal tribute honouring Lyra Taylor was delivered by Rosanna Arena (Services Australia). Government leadership was provided by Micaela Cronin, Australia’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner, and the keynote address was delivered by Amani Haydar, award-winning writer, lawyer, and advocate.

The program featured three panel discussions and 23 speakers across government, academia, health, justice, community services, and specialist family violence sectors. Panels explored children as victim-survivors, innovative responses for real-world impact, and safer digital ecosystems, chaired by Deirdre Cheers, Anthony Schembri AM, and Carolyn Cousins. The closing session, delivered by Tara Hunter (Full Stop Australia), synthesised key themes and reinforced a collective call to action for systemic change.

The Summit was complemented by a pre-Summit workshop on social entrapment, facilitated by Tori Cooke. The workshop was attended by 31 participants and it provided deeper skills-based learning and practical application aligned with the Summit theme. The AASW National Excellence Awards (NEAs) were also integrated into the event, recognising outstanding contributions across social work practice, leadership, and impact. There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.
