Hilde is working on a PhD on the topic of how social workers connect with clients who they don’t share a language with. In her talk, she will reflect on communication across language gaps with and without interpreters. She will explore the question of whether social workers can build a meaningful connection with clients when using interpreters. Finally, she will share recommendations for best practices for social workers who depend on interpreters in their work.
Hilde Fiva Buzungu is a visiting fellow to the University of New South Wales. Hilde is based in Norway, at Oslo Metropolitan University.
Annual Social Justice Award
The AASW NSW Social Justice Award recognises the invaluable work of social workers who have made a significant contribution to a social justice issue. The 2019 winner will be announced on the night and the award will be presented by NSW Branch President David Keegan.
Please join us in celebrating World Social Work Day. Post event celebrations will be held at The Cookhouse located at 141 Belmore Rd, Randwick.
