10th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health – Melbourne – 19 – 22 November 2024
The 10th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health (10th ICSWHMH) was delivered between Tuesday 19 – Friday 22 November 2024, at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre (MCEC).
The Conference was delivered in hybrid format, a combination of plenary live streaming and face-to-face sessions that were recorded for on-demand viewing. Overall, the program consisted of 367 presentations including oral, poster and e-poster presentations, workshops and panels.
The 10th ICSWHMH was a significant event that successfully achieved its overall aims of fostering global connections and promoting innovative approaches in social work. The Conference brought together over 1100 delegates from 25 countries, including practitioners, academics, researchers, and students, to exchange knowledge and experiences.
The delegates and speakers at the ICSWHMH represented a broad spectrum of expertise and backgrounds, with the majority being social workers. Keynote speakers included:
- MS Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia
- Hon Emma McBride MP, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention & Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health
- Dr Cindy Blackstock, Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society in Canada
- Dr Michael Ungar, Director of the Resilience Research Centre in Canada. Both are renowned for their contributions to child welfare, Indigenous rights, and resilience research
- Associate Professor Heather Boetto from Charles Sturt University, an expert in Environmental Social Work
- Professor Tom Calma AO, an expert in Indigenous and non-Indigenous health, mental health, SEWB and suicide prevention, education, aged care, economic development and social justice.
The Conference was also supported by industry, with 18 individual organisations involved, spanning from universities, non-for-profit organisations and recruitment agencies.
