AboutThe current study aims to conduct qualitative interviews to explore the professional experiences of mental health staff working with grade 5 and 6 students exhibiting signs of school non-attendance. As an exploratory study, the themes derived from this research will establish a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and strategies related to preventing school refusal, identifying warning signals, and implementing early interventions. Additionally, insights from the study may inform the development of targeted interventions and support systems for older primary school students, ultimately contributing to effective strategies in addressing school refusal in this specific age group.
What is involvedParticipants will be invited to complete a brief online demographic questionnaire, which is estimated to take approximately 10 minutes. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to participate in an online interview, beginning the week of the 5th March. The interview is expected to last approximately 45 to 60 minutes. All participants will be reimbursed with a $40 Amazon gift card for their time. The study has received approval from the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (Project ID: 40659).
