Live Online Workshop
Capability Levels: Emerging, Evolving, Established
This engaging and experiential workshop is designed for social workers at all career stages who are interested in integrating mindfulness-based approaches into their practice with older adults.
Grounded in evidence-based research, the workshop explores the unique benefits of meditation and contemplative practices in promoting wellbeing and spiritual growth among frail older adults. Participants must have a foundational understanding of mindfulness and a personal commitment to embodying mindful living in their professional and personal lives.
Through reflective discussion, case stories, and participation in a simulated Mindfulness Meditation Group (MMG) session, attendees will deepen their understanding of group facilitation, adapt the 6-week MMG model to their own settings, and develop strategies to enhance engagement and overcome common barriers.
Each participant will receive a How-To Guidebook to support implementation in their care context.
This workshop offers an opportunity for social workers to enrich their therapeutic toolkit while fostering connection, meaning, and quality of life for older Australians.

Who should attend?
This workshop is open to all from emerging to experienced social workers. A basic knowledge of the benefits of mindfulness practice is required and a personal commitment to become more aligned with a mindful approach to living.
AASW Credentials:
Mental Health (FPS), Older Persons
This Workshop is not recorded; however, you will have access to materials and resources on AASW Online Learning for 4 weeks after the completion of the workshop.
FPS Psycho-education will be incorporated in this workshop and falls under b. cognitive-behavioural therapy that involves cognitive or behavioural interventions and c. relaxation strategies - (https://www9.health.gov.au/mbs/fullDisplay.cfm?type=note&q=MN.7.4&qt=noteID&criteria=MN%2E7%2E4)
In the event of an audit, it is the member’s responsibility to clearly demonstrate how this FPS training is relevant to the delivery of FPS in their specific work context.
