Branch – Queensland

The QLD Branch is supported by a Branch Management Committee elected by the Branch membership. We service and represent Social Workers in Southern Queensland from the southern border to Gladstone (below Latitude 22 south).

The Branch’s key role is to provide local support for AASW members through a range of activities that enable members to network, develop practice skills and organise around social justice issues.

QLD Branch World Social Work Day Celebration 2026

Theme: Co Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society

We’re excited to announce that for World Social Work Day 2026, we’ll be hosting a week long, in person celebration of Queensland social work, and we’d love you to be part of it!

📅 When: World Social Work Day Week 16th to 19th March 2026

📍 Where: A dedicated gallery space transformed into a vibrant social work showcase

This year’s global theme “Co Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society” calls on us to “pull together” in the spirit of unity, shared responsibility, and collective action. Our event will bring that theme to life through creativity, collaboration, and community storytelling.

We’re inviting Practice Groups and individual social workers to host a day, showcase their practice, or contribute something meaningful. With full BMC support, you might offer:

• Seminars & Workshops – practical sessions highlighting innovative practice or emerging issues.

• Panel Discussions – engaging dialogue on key challenges and opportunities in social work.

• Research & Innovation Showcases – presentations of recent projects or evidence-based practice.

• Community Engagement Initiatives – Art exhibitions or creative workshops, awareness drives, or collaborative outreach.

• Celebration & Recognition – highlighting achievements, service milestones, and contributions of members.

• Anything that celebrates the depth and diversity of QLD social work
