Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a short-term, goals focused, evidence-based approach…which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. (https://solutionfocused.net/what-is-solution-focused-therapy/ 2022)
Social Workers seek to empower the people they work with and liberate them from social injustice. While Solution-Focused techniques may be most useful in working at a micro level, the principles align with the belief that individuals are the experts in their lives and have the strength and knowledge to build creative solutions towards change. In promoting this belief, we, as Social Workers, promote the values we hold of respect for persons, social justice, and professional integrity.
Incorporating these techniques into practice demonstrates the power of Social Work as a profession and provides a solid framework for Social Work practice in the challenging field of crisis and short intervention work. When a person accesses a crisis service or a service offering short intervention they are often distressed, have many issues converging, or find it difficult to choose what they wish to work on.
Understanding how to support an individual to make the best use of their, and your, expertise is challenging.
This webinar draws on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Client Directed-Outcome Informed Therapy, and the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. The techniques from these models will allow practitioners to maintain clarity in another’s crisis, modify their and their client’s expectations of what can be done, and help their clients to achieve small, but important goals to set the foundations for ongoing recovery and/or thriving in the face of adversity.
"Elissa was very engaging and explained the content in a clear and concise way. The case study was a great way to see it in practice" – webinar participant, June 2022.
"Fantastic practical and logical framework for short term work, which is exactly relevant to my job" – webinar participant, June 2022.
Who should register? Evolving or established practitioners who would like to broaden their understanding of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
