Join Louisa Pearce for an insightful lunchtime webinar exploring a complex area of mental health social work - what it’s like to work alongside people who hear voices or experience other non-ordinary states of consciousness.
Hearing voices can be a deeply distressing and isolating experience, often misunderstood or misrepresented.
Whether described as psychosis, spiritual experiences, intrusive thoughts, or communication with unseen beings, these experiences are more common than many realise, and they carry a wide range of personal meaning.
In this lunchtime webinar, part of our Day in the Life series, Accredited Social Worker Louisa Pearce shares what it’s like to work with people navigating these states.
Louisa brings a unique perspective shaped by both professional practice and lived experience.
Louisa works in a niche area of mental health, supporting people who have experienced psychosis, voice-hearing and psycho-spiritual distress. Louisa's clients typically have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, dissociative disorders or PTSD.
Louisa's work is somewhat unusual because she has the lived experience of psychosis, hearing voices, and recovery from schizophrenia. She fosters a relationship with clients which feels relaxed and equal, and which respects their worldviews and beliefs.
Louisa is trained in Social Work, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Embodied Processing Therapy, Intentional Peer Support (IPS), the Hearing Voices Approach, Voice Dialogue, and Trauma-Informed Care.
