SA Christians in Social Work Networking Group meet for a meal and networking opportunity - Nourishing & flourishing in Social Work - how to sustain the call: a panel discussion
Social Work is a profession that attracts individuals with high empathy & ideals. It is also a profession with a high burn out rate. Research indicates a current burnout rate of 39% and a lifetime rate of 75% among social workers. Furthermore, experienced practitioners may be at higher risk of burnout than new graduates, as senior staff are less likely to be offered ongoing professional development opportunities due to the expectation that they have already acquired relevant skills (Australian Mental Health Social Workers Experience of Burnout by Carles, Stewart, & Hodgson 2023)
Sounds sobering, but there are strategies to manage this unwelcome reality to our profession.
As the end to another year draws near, this presentation will provide an opportunity to take stock of how you are managing personal and professional stress, how to rest well, and how to approach your next year of employment.
Come along to hear the experiences of several Social Workers who will share how they maintain self-care and hope, how they draw upon their spiritual resources, and manage tensions between personal and professional values.
Opportunity will be provided for general discussion and questions. Together let’s spur one another on towards nourishing & flourishing as Social Workers, with the presentation starting at 7:30 pm..
