This webinar provides an overview of LivingWorks programs and a presentation on the evidence behind the shift from risk assessment to a focus on safety planning. This presentation and case study activity will develop your skills in identifying those at risk, responding to client disclosures and connecting clients to safety.

Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Recognise people who have thoughts of suicide.
- Learn about LivingWorks' TASC model and understand how to ask clients directly about suicide.
- Be introduced to the concept of safety planning with clients at risk of suicide.
- Learn about the application of suicide intervention skills within the context of Social Work practice.
Presenters
Belinda Connell Belinda has been a registered Social Worker for 25 years and is currently the Training Manager for LivingWorks Australia in NSW and ACT. Belinda has experience in the Government and Non-Government sector in a range of roles, and has also served as a sworn Police Officer with the NSW Police Service. Belinda has been involved in suicide prevention for the past 10 years and has delivered LivingWorks suicide intervention training in Australia and overseas. As Training Manager, Belinda oversees a network of more than 190 LivingWorks ASIST and safeTALK trainers. |
Renee Tsatsis Renee is the Training Manager for LivingWorks Australia -Victoria and Tasmania. She has extensive suicide prevention and training experience, having worked for over 15 years in the community and mental health sectors - most recently managing a statewide mental health helpline. As Training Manager, Renee manages and oversees the rollout of suicide prevention activities and projects with key stakeholders across the region, along with supporting local trainers in their development as safeTALK and ASIST trainers. Renee holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Master of Social Work, and is an accredited social worker registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers. Renee is an ASIST and safeTALK trainer and has delivered over 150 workshops. She is also an ASIST Coach and safeTALK Instructor, and has a passion and commitment to delivering and supporting others to deliver high quality skills based training in order to create a suicide safer community. |
Shayne Connell Shayne Connell, MBA, has extensive leadership experience in social cause organizations and as an elected official. He previously served as a manager and coordinator in the cancer research fundraising field and represented the people of Newcastle, Australia, as a city councillor. Shayne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and an MBA from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He has been extensively involved in suicide prevention as both a LivingWorks trainer and coach—where he has delivered over 100 workshops—and as a coordinator and crisis counselling volunteer with Lifeline Australia. |
