This two hour online course on Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT), is delivered by Dr Bruno Cayoun, Clinical Psychologist and principal developer of Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT).

Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT) is an evidence-based integration of mindfulness core principles (in the Burmese Vipassana tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin) with solid and well-established methods of cognitive and behavioural therapies in the West. MiCBT consists of a four-stage transdiagnostic treatment approach used to address acute and chronic conditions, and prevent relapse in a wide range of psychological disorders.

The aim of this presentation is to introduce the main therapeutic principles of MiCBT, its theoretical foundation, and its effects across conditions. It will also expand our common understanding of operant conditioning, which provides a strong neuro-behavioural basis for this approach.

This is a great opportunity to learn from the principal developer and senior teacher of MiCBT.

This workshop is best suited for social workers (or other allied health prfoessionals) specialising, or wishing to specialise, in mental health practice.

Course objectives

In this introductory presentation, participants will learn about:

  • The four stages of MiCBT
  • The empirical evidence supporting the efficacy of MiCBT across a range of disorders
  • The origins, purpose and process of mindfulness
  • The co-emergence model of reinforcement as rationale for using mindfulness in therapy and theoretical foundation for MiCBT
  • The use of mindfulness as means of emotion regulation (Stage 1 of MiCBT)
  • Integrating mindfulness and CBT to reduce avoidance (Stage 2 of MiCBT)
  • Integrating mindfulness and CBT to improve interpersonal communication (Stage 3 of MiCBT)
  • Integrating mindfulness, compassion and CBT to improve well-being and prevent relapse (Stage 4 of MiCBT).
