Have your say on the AASW English Language Policy

The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is in line with our commitment within the Blueprint for Change reviewing our English Language Policy. We would like to hear from as many social workers, employers, higher education providers, students and those who work with and alongside social workers

The AASW conducts migration assessments on behalf of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR). These include the assessment of overseas-qualified social workers who are applying through the Migration and Eligibility Assessment (MEA) program. A component of the assessment is to provide evidence of English Language Skills. The English Language Policy determines the type of standardised test and the required threshold that needs to be demonstrated.

We are seeking feedback on our current policy, to see if it is fit for purpose, if it is supported by evidence and sets an appropriate standard for safe, effective and quality social work practice in the Australian context.

The discussion paper includes assessment data, English language results, relevant research and comparisons with tests used by other professional bodies.

Your feedback will inform the review.

  1. Read the discussion paper.
  2. Complete the survey by 22 October at 11:59pm AEDT.
