Branch - Tasmania

The TAS Branch is managed by a Branch Management Committee elected by the Branch membership.

The Branch’s key role is to provide local support for AASW members through a range of activities that enable members to network, develop practice skills and organise around social justice issues.

Join the conversation on social work scope of practice

Join us Thursday 29 October, 5:30–7:30pm AEDT, as we bring social workers together in Devonport, Launceston and Hobart for Social Work in Tasmania: Connect, Converse, Contribute.

These will be relaxed regional gatherings with time to connect with other social workers, share some light refreshments and contribute to facilitated conversations about social work practice in Tasmania.

Free for AASW members and social work students, $5 for non-members.

These regional conversations provide an opportunity for Tasmanian social workers to consider what defines our practice, what may distinguish the contribution of social work, and what needs to be recognised within the Tasmanian context.

Earlier this year, social workers at our Tasmania Branch Connect event began exploring some of these questions, sharing their experiences of the work, professional identity, challenges and hopes for the profession. You can read a summary of what we heard here.

This short questionnaire asks what makes our work social work, what’s distinctive about practising in Tasmania, and what the AASW needs to understand as it develops a national scope of practice. Our short online questionnaire is open until 5:00pm AEDT Friday 6 November.

There are no right or wrong answers, and we’re not seeking consensus. We’re interested in hearing a range of experiences, perspectives and ideas. You don’t need to be an AASW member to participate.
