Branch – VIC

The Victorian Branch, with over 4,000 members, is supported by a voluntary Branch Management Committee elected by the Branch membership.

The Branch’s key role is to provide local support for AASW members through a range of activities that enable members to network, develop practice skills and organise around social justice issues.

World Social Work Day Breakfast

Connections were made at the AASW Victoria branch World Social Work Day breakfast this morning in Melbourne.
We heard from the Hon. Samantha Ratnam MP, a social worker and leader of the Victorian Greens.
She told her personal and professional story of being a refugee from the conflict in Sri Lanka and later working to help refugees. She also researched ‘Buen Vivir’ and its equivalent meaning among the Indigenous peoples of Central America, discussing its confluence with social work values and the Greens’ policies. Along with many questions answered, she thanked social workers for doing the work that they do.
Thanks, everyone!

Welcome to the newly formed Working with Older Persons and Persons with a Disability Practice Group. Our purpose is:

  • To provide peer support to Social Workers who work with Older Persons; and/or Persons with a Disability (Physical, Neurological and Mental Health)
  • To advocate for and support People (Recipient or Carer) who access My Aged Care and NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) services and individualised funding; Primary Health Networks, Social Prescribers, Non-profit services, For Profit services and Private Providers.
  • To give Recipients or Carers more Choice and Control over their services and individualised funding.
  • To discuss innovative practice and challenges in these varied service systems
  • To monitor development in the Aged Care and Disability areas of practice and to provide informed comment as appropriate.

This group will be run by Zoom and be open to all Social Workers across Australia regardless of AASW membership.

Please contact Branch Services to be put in touch with the Convenor, Cassie Tu.

Not only will you be able to give back to your fellow social workers and your profession, but you could also help shape activities providing peer support and networking (Practice and Networking Groups) and category 3 professional development both online and in person (Practice Groups only).
