This practical and thought-provoking workshop is designed for social workers who want to build their capacity to engage men and fathers more effectively in their work. Drawing on current research and best practice, the workshop explores the complex social expectations, identities, and barriers that shape men’s roles as fathers and caregivers.
Who should attend?
For all types of workers from students to highly experienced practitioners, this workshop provides skills and knowledge that can be applicable in case management, practice guidance, program leadership and organisation policy.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
· Critically evaluate the diverse roles of fathers and male caregivers in child development, family systems, and community contexts.
· Identify and challenge gendered assumptions and systemic biases within social work practice that impact men and fathers.
· Assess the barriers that limit father involvement and develop practical solutions to support and empower men in their caregiving roles.
· Apply evidence-based interventions and best practices when working with fathers in areas such as parenting support, family reunification, and family separation.
· Reflect critically on personal practice and adapt approaches to be responsive to the diverse needs of men and fathers.
