The LGBTIQ+ Practice Group is open to social workers who have an interest in advancing LGBTIQ+ rights, advocacy, wellness, safety and social work practice, and advocating for laws, policies and services that include LGBTIQ+ communities. This practice group will provide necessary tools, information and resources to enhance social workers’ practice in this area.

Monday 25 February Northern Rivers Practice Group meeting - 25 Feb 2019

The Northern Rivers Social Work Practice Group will hold its first meeting for 2019 on Monday 25 February. The meeting is open to all qualified social worker and social work students.

Training: Dr Nicol Moulding will provide training on the theme of Therapeutic Approach for Working with Aboriginal People: Incorporating ‘Spirit’ into discussion when working with Aboriginal clients plus other language and tools.

Guest speaker: Gerard Dunlop, Advocacy and Education at Seniors Rights Service.

Interactive Workshop

The AASW (NSW Branch) in collaboration with the Blue Knot Foundation, are facilitating a one-day interactive professional development training day on Trauma-Informed Care and Practice - Level 2. This workshop is for professionals who work in the (not limited to) health, mental health, AOD, community, legal, justice, domestic and family violence, child protection, emergency, disability, housing, settlement, and/or employment services. This one-day interactive professional development training, builds on the principles of trauma-informed care and practice explored in the Trauma-informed Care and Practice Level 1 workshop.
