The Scope of Social Work Practice

The Scope of Practice series articulates and promotes the role of professional social workers within fields of practice, and provides information about what employers and clients can expect. Each document has been developed in consultation with social work leaders and practitioners. The series is part of the AASW's National Scope of Social Work Practice strategy.

Scope of Social Work Practice - fields

Scope of Social Work Practice - skills

Who can use them?

Social workers, policy makers, managers and academics can use the documents in the Scope of Social Work Practice series to articulate and promote the role of professional social workers in a particular field.

National Scope of Social Work strategy

The AASW has a national strategy which details how we will use each scope of practice in our overall social policy and advocacy work. This work, carried out in coordination with our national office, state and territory branches and members, promotes the value and significant contribution of the social work profession to stakeholders in government departments, welfare and related agencies, hospitals and health services, and media organisations, national, state and territory governments, and key ministers and Members of Parliament.
