SA Commissioner for Aboriginal Children & Young People
About the Keynote speaker
April Lawrie took up appointment as South Australia’s inaugural Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People in October 2018.
April has 28 years’ experience addressing Aboriginal issues across government and at the community level, contributing to the formation of Aboriginal policy at the state and national level. She has been a well reputed advocate for Aboriginal Children and Young People including significant contributions to the formation of the development of the Education Department’s Aboriginal Education Strategy.
In her new role Commissioner Lawrie will bring the voice of Aboriginal Children and Young People into broader policy areas including health, justice, child protection and education. Her aim is to improve service outcomes for Aboriginal Children and Young People through highly responsive and culturally relevant pathways.
