Membership Fee Types

Please click on the fee type for more information.

Full Fee

Applicants holding either; an AASW accredited social work qualification from an Australian tertiary institution or, a social work qualification from overseas that has been assessed and the applicant has been determined to be eligible for AASW membership.

Reduced Fee - Income

The AASW provides for a reduced fee to members with a combined taxable income (your income only) below a low income threshold ($46,000.00) to enable them to remain a member and ensure their full participation in professional social work as a member of the AASW. Reduced fee members are entitled to access all of the services and benefits of a full member of AASW.

This fee is available to members upon application (and with the required documentation) who:

1. hold either an AASW accredited social work qualification from an Australian tertiary institution, or social work qualification from overseas that has been assessed and the applicant has been determined to be eligible for AASW membership, and

2. have a combined taxable income, (i.e. total personal income from all sources) that is below the AASW low income threshold of $46,000.00 pa.

Members whose financial income changes during the year and increases beyond the low income threshold are required to immediately advise the Membership Officer who will invoice them for the balance of full fee for the year.

Please remember this service is there to support members whose financial circumstances may put at risk their ability to remain a member. It is important that members comply with the spirit of this service and the qualifying criteria.

New Graduate

The New Graduate Fee is for members renewing or joining within 2 years of completion of their first qualifying Social Work degree. This recognises that new graduates have many expenses to recover in their first few years after graduation and we believe that your continued membership of AASW in these years is important. Please provide a certified copy of your transcript OR degree.

Retired Fee

Applicants holding either an AASW approved social work qualification from an Australian tertiary institution, or social work qualification from overseas that has been assessed and the applicant has been determined to be eligible for AASW membership.

Student Fee

Student (qualifying)
Students enrolled in an AASW accredited BSW or MSW (qualifying).

Student (already eligible)
Those already eligible for AASW membership and undertaking full time Masters or Doctoral social work studies.

Internationally Qualified

Internationally qualified social workers who receive a successful Membership Eligibility Assessment after 1 July 2013 are eligible for free AASW membership for the remainder of the Australian financial year (which runs from 1 July through to 30 June) in which their assessment was undertaken, and the reduced fee for 2 years from the date of their assessment.

Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW)

The Australian Association of Social Workers is the accrediting body on behalf of Medicare Australia and the Australian Government for assessment of Accredited Mental Health Social Workers. Successful applicants are able to apply to Medicare Australia for a Medicare Provider Number and access referrals under a number of Government funded programs.
