The NT BMC is excited to have aspiring to be an Elder Josephine Lee in conversation with Tim Donovan.
Tim will introduce Josephine, briefly reflecting on last year’s NAIDOC conversation ‘for our elders’, and then invite the audience and Josephine to think about this year’s theme of ‘Keep the fire burning. Blak, Loud & Proud, focusing on what this means for Josephine and her people.
Josephine Lee is a Gudjula woman from North Queensland. Josephine holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from James Cook University and a Diploma in Indigenous Leadership. She has won Manager of the Year for the Private Sector 2003 and Social Worker of the Year 2018 (The Mary Moylan Award). Her career spans 35 years as a social worker and she has worked in many areas of social work. The main areas that she has worked in are: child protection & juvenile justice; counselling and therapy (particularly trauma); education; hospital; and Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing. She has worked in social work practice and management. Josephine loves to yarn and tell stories.
Tim Donovan is an Accredited Mental health social worker who has been working in Alice Springs, NT, for close to 10 years. With post-graduate training in narrative therapy, Tim has experience working in multiple sectors and is the author of ‘Reclaiming lives from sexual violence. Understanding shame through innovative narrative therapy.
