Join us at the AASW Gold Coast Practice Group for an insightful presentation by Simon Santosha on Engaging and Working with Vulnerable Men: Essential Tools for Social Work Practice.
Simon is the Managing Director and Principal Therapist of Men and Family Counselling and Consultancy on the Gold Coast. He is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Clinical Counsellor. Simon’s practical, evidence-based presentation is designed for social workers looking to engage and work effectively with vulnerable male clients they may encounter in their field of practice.
Participants will gain essential knowledge and practical skills that can be applied to their social work frameworks, caseloads and practices.
- Learn about an integrated framework for working with vulnerable men.
- Gain insight into the key issues that impact on men’s mental health and wellbeing.
- Increase awareness of the impact of attachment, trauma and brain development (neuroscience) has on men’s behaviours and relationships.
- Understand how male socialisation/psychology contributes to men’s reluctance to seek help and how to align your approach accordingly.
- Explore key transition points or ‘vulnerable stages’ for men and the need for early intervention (separation/divorce, co-parenting, relationship issues, birth of a baby, job loss, mental or physical health problems etc).
- Understand barriers to help-seeking and accessing community support services for men and how to maximise referral and support networks.
