The Qld Mental Health Act 2016
This topic provides an overview of this legislation in Queensland and includes: the main objectives and principles of this Act; details in relation to orders under the Act; how this Act is comparable to the previous QLD Mental Health Act (2000) and where there are differences; an explanation of the Courts and the Mental Health Review Tribunal; the role of Advanced Health Care Directives and how these can be used in advocacy; and a focus on client rights and the role that social workers can play as advocates.
Social Work and the Law
This session focusses on the work of the Slater and Gordon Social Work Service to our clients. The service was established in May 2009. Referral data is presented and there is a focus on referral issues and interventions. Recurring referral themes are identified and are discussed.
Privacy and Confidentiality
This session defines Privacy vs Confidentiality. It explains patients' rights and your obligations; the duty of confidentiality; exceptions to this duty; and, when it is your duty to breach confidentiality. Addressing conflicts in confidentiality is also explored.
