The AASW-WA Branch is pleased to be hosting ‘Get That Job’, an event for social work students, new graduates and social workers who want to improve their employment opportunities.
The session will cover how to interpret and respond to selection criteria when applying for a position. It will provide examples of responses to common criteria and a practical exercise in writing a response.
The second half of the session will focus on preparing a résumé that is targeted on the desired position. An example will be explored and the participants will be given a practical exercise to get their résumé started.

Lloyd White is a career-change consultant, assisting job applicants to understand the selection process, interpret the selection criteria and write strong, focused applications.He assists private clients and groups in responding to selection criteria, preparing a Targeted Résumé and preparing for and presenting in an interview.
Over the past 30 years, he has helped thousands of clients, individually or in groups, to unravel the mysteries of responding to selection criteria. He has had extensive personal experience in government and has lectured in careers at three Western Australian universities.
His clients include applicants for positions in the public and private sector, the Australian Government, and State and Local Government. He also trains government agency and TAFE staff in selection procedures, responsibilities and techniques.
He lectured at ECU for three years full time, coordinating the Grad Dip in Career Studies and an additional 15 years part-time lecturing in Career Studies, Interpersonal skills and some Health Studies and Justice studies units. He lectured in sessional classes in Career Education as part of the Dip. Ed at UWA and in Organisational Behaviour at Curtin University. He is the author of Write a Winning Job Application, now in its 6th ed., which is used in every state government and by employment agencies around Australia.
