Slavery is illegal worldwide, however more people live in slavery now than ever before. It is estimated over 40 million people live in slavery, two thirds are in our region and one quarter are children.
The session will explore the landscape of modern-day slavery highlighted by Australian and international examples. It will also inform social workers of the current avenues being used to tackle this issue. The session will invite social workers to consider how to respond to modern-day slavery from a direct client perspective and systemically.
Keynote speaker – Professor Jennifer Burn, NSW Anti-Slavery Interim Commissioner, Professor of Law at the University of Technology Sydney and former director of Anti-Slavery Australia at UTS
War On Slavery – co-founders Jane Jeffes and Becky Honey. War On Slavery is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim to raise public awareness on modern-day slavery.
