LIVE ONLINE WORKSHOP
Capability Level: Evolving & Established
Supervision is not neutral – it either sees us, or it silences us.
This interactive 3-hour online workshop invites social work supervisors and leaders to explore how culture, identity, and systemic barriers shape the supervision experience for workers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.
Drawing on lived experience, case studies, and national policy priorities, the session will unpack the “invisible weight” that CaLD supervisees often carry in professional spaces. Participants will learn practical tools for culturally safe supervision, including reflective questioning, humility practices, and identity-affirming feedback.
Through role plays, group activities, and reflective exercises, supervisors will practise skills that make cultural identity visible, strengthen trust, and foster belonging. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with concrete strategies and one intentional shift they can embed into their next supervision practice.
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for social workers who provide supervision or are preparing to take on supervisory roles. It is most relevant for practitioners who want to strengthen their practice with a cultural lens.
Social work supervisors, managers, and team leaders who support staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
· Social work supervisors, managers, and team leaders who support staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
· Established practitioners seeking to deepen their supervision practice with practical, culturally responsive strategies.
· Evolving practitioners preparing for supervisory responsibilities and wanting to build culturally safe foundations.
· Allied professionals working in multidisciplinary teams who are interested in approaches that foster belonging and cultural humility.
No prior specialist knowledge of cultural supervision is required. The workshop is pitched at an Evolving to Established level and will benefit those looking to embed identity-affirming, culturally safe supervision into their everyday practice.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
· Identify the cultural and systemic barriers that impact the supervision experience of CaLD supervisees.
· Apply reflective questions, feedback strategies, and culturally safe frameworks to supervision practice.
· Demonstrate identity-affirming supervision skills through case study analysis and role play.
· Evaluate their own supervision approach and commit to at least one intentional shift to better support CaLD supervisees.
