Tasmanian Branch
Branch Overview
The Tasmanian Branch, with over 400 members, is managed by a voluntary Branch Management Committee elected by the Branch membership.
The Branch’s key role is to provide local support for AASW members through a range of activities that enable members to network, develop practice skills and organise around social justice issues. The Branch Management Committee provides the conduit for communications between members in Tasmania and the broader National Association.
The Tasmanian Branch delivers value to members via several channels:
- Advocating for social justice issues relevant to social workers and their service users.
- Collaborating with members to build a stronger voice for the profession in Tasmania.
- Focusing on issues and priorities identified by our members.
- Monitoring the news and potential impacts on the profession.
- Supporting members to organise around common interests through networking and peer support groups.
The voluntary Branch Management Committee members have a wealth of knowledge and experience, working within varying sectors of the community, and offer support and representation for Social Worker members within the region.
Join us on our Facebook page to keep up to date with the latest news, events and opportunities to connect with the local profession.
Please contact the Branch if you would like to get involved or bring any issues to the attention of the Branch Management Committee at aasw.tas@aasw.asn.au.

Networking Groups
AASW Tasmania Branch welcomes a new Networking Group to Hobart!
Check out some of the Social Workers who attended the first session of AASW Tasmania's new Networking Group, Social workers from Multicultural backgrounds seeking connection and support. The group had a great turnout with over 20 Social Workers attending!
In this ever changing and developing landscape where Hobart is rapidly becoming a more multicultural and diverse population, we would like to invite you to monthly meet up’s for social work professionals and students from multicultural backgrounds or with multicultural links and ties. Participants will be given the opportunity to discuss their unique experiences with each other through shared stories, dialogue, peer supervision and support. The aim is to create a network of social workers that will be able to support each other to develop their own professional practice and to forge links with others within the community services sector.
Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate diversity within the sector and allow for many different methodologies and ideas to shape and add to the future of social work practice in Hobart.
The group will meet the last Monday of every month - for the latest information on the next meeting, check out the Tasmania event page.
